A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MALENIA:
UPDATED 11/06/24:
We have finally had a real breakthrough with Malenia, who has started venturing out of her bed more over recent weeks, and stopped the hissing when we get near. She has now started accepting head rubs and fuss from a couple of our staff members, and is now head-bumping and purring and showing that she's actually a girl who really loves contact. She'll still need a quiet home, but the progress she has made shows that she truly will become a lovely family member!
Malenia came into our care with another cat, Rykard, but after almost two months of very little progress, we came to the decision to separate them as it was felt that they were feeding off each other’s nervousness.
While Rykard would accept some attention, Malenia would growl and hiss and this would spook him. So they have now been moved into individual pens, and both are slowly starting to adjust.
We have very little background on Malenia as she and Rykard came in from another rescue where they had been for some time. Their backstory is unknown but Malenia has a real distrust of humans.
That said, one of our staff members is making progress with her, even getting some slow blinks and having her come out to eat while she is nearby.
Malenia will be a slow-burner, requiring lots of time and patience.
We think she may do well in a home where there is another cat who can show her that humans aren't as scary as she fears.
She will be a challenge, but it will be well worth it as we believe that this girl will transform in the right home.
