A LITTLE BIT ABOUT CHARLIE:

Charlie has been through an awful lot and when he arrived in our care he was emaciated, filthy and a real sad, sorry fellow. He had lived a life stuck indoors, never being socialised with dogs or people, and punished for toileting inside even though he had no alternative.

Despite all he had been through, he instantly bonded with our team and showed himself to be a real softy who just wants love, cuddles and to play like a puppy. He is 6 years old, but it is evident that he has never enjoyed a proper puppyhood, so his time at The Holdings has enabled him to decompress and learn how fun it is to be a dog!

Charlie has come so far; he’s gained weight and his coat looks shiny and healthy. He is now fully house-trained and he knows his basic commands. He enjoys his food, loves toys and he adores human company and contact with those he knows and trusts (climbing on laps is one of his favourite things to do…he truly has no concept of his size!).

He is understandably still a little wary of people he doesn’t know. He will bark and guard his territory if he feels threatened, and the same goes with other dogs. This is only because he still doesn’t fully understand the outside world, and he clearly worries about anything he perceives might endanger the lovely life he now has. We are working closely with a behaviourist to help him overcome these issues and he is doing really well. He has been muzzle-trained and accepts this with ease, and he is starting to go on walks off-site which he has been handling like a boss!

Charlie needs to be the only dog in a quiet, adult-only home with someone experienced with large breeds (and strong enough to walk him on the lead!) who will commit to his ongoing training and socialisation. The Branch will help with providing ongoing training, and may also be able to cover the cost of securing your garden in order to meet our requirements-our priority is to find Charlie the right home!
